Innovative Concrete Counters & Surfaces

Why choose concrete?

For its unique look and feel. For its durability. For the infinite number of ways it can be customized. You'll be amazed at the beauty and functionality of concrete surfaces. Add decorative aggregates like glass chips or semiprecious stones for a unique color accent. Inlay brass, bronze or stainless steel details to coordinate with your appliances. Include sculpted features like a sloping drain board or an inset cutting board. Embed your corporate logo made from metal or stone. With concrete, you can customize the third dimension - depth!

This is just concrete?

The concrete used to manufacture our surfaces is a special formulation incorporating plasticizers, curing agents, and carbon fiber reinforcement. It's light years ahead of the concrete used in driveways and sidewalks. The result is a smooth, glossy surface that can be polished to a uniform finish, or lightly ground to expose the aggregates within the surface.

What do concrete surfaces cost?

The manufacture of concrete surfaces is very labor intensive. Because each counter or surface is shaped and formed to suit your specific needs, each piece is individually quoted. There is no standard price per square foot. In general, the cost of a concrete surface is equivalent to a moderate to high-end granite counter with similar features. Adding details unique to concrete, such as decorative aggregates, custom inlays, or sculpted features like sloping drain boards can result in prices that significantly exceed that of granite. For general planning purposes, your counters will probably cost from $50 to $100 per square foot and up.

Can concrete surfaces scratch or crack?

Concrete surfaces share many of the characteristics of other stone surfaces like marble or limestone, and require similar care. They are very durable, but NOT indestructible. The surface can chip or crack if struck by a heavy object. The use of hot pads and cutting boards is recommended to protect the surface from extreme temperature changes and scratches. Concrete may experience small hairline cracks or crazing (similar to that which occurs on the surfaces of porcelain objects) that will not affect its strength or durability. We use a carefully selected mix of sealants to provide your concrete surfaces with three layers of protection. This makes them highly stain resistant, but not stain proof. Prompt cleanup of spills, particularly acids such as citrus juice and wine, and the periodic application of a light coat of wax will ensure that your counters will provide you with years of enjoyment. Concrete's natural tendency to acquire a patina or personality over time is seen by many as a desirable characteristic, giving your counters the quality of a fine family heirloom.

What kind of care do concrete counters need?

Concrete counters do not need periodic resealing, but we do advise the occasional application of a food-safe carnuba wax or bee's wax (which we will provide) for maximum stain resistance. This can vary from once a month to once a year depending on how your counters are used. We advise that you stay away from all abrasive cleaners such as cleansers or Scothbrite pads, and do not use vinegar or products containing acids, as they may etch and dull your surfaces. A mild soap and water solution or a spray-n-wipe type product will help ensure your counters maintain their beautiful appearance.

How long is the delivery time?

Concrete counters and surfaces are custom made, and customers should allow six to eight weeks for delivery once a contract is signed. This ensures adequate time for the concrete to properly cure, providing the hardest and most durable surface possible.
